چکیده
Somatostatin receptor (SSTR) expressions in neuroblastomas (NBs) have been confirmed employing various methods. High SSTR-2 expression was suggested to be a favorable prognostic marker, though little is known about the relationships between the expressions of SSTR subtypes, other than SSTR-2, and prognosis. We investigated the expressions of all five known SSTR subtypes in 63 neuroblastic tumors (NTs), employing immunohistochemistry, and also conducted quantitative real-time RT-PCR in 37 of these tumors. We evaluated correlations between the expressions of SSTR subtypes and prognosis, based on the International Neuroblastoma Pathology Classification and patient outcomes. More than 90% of cases expressed, at a minimum, SSTR-1 and/or 2. Ganglioneuromas and ganglioneuroblastomas expressed more than two SSTR subtypes. Among NBs, the favorable histology group showed higher SSTR subtype expressions than the unfavorable histology group. The same tendency was observed when surviving and deceased cases were compared, though SSTR-2 expression was well preserved in some of the deceased cases. In conclusion, NTs highly expressed SSTR-1 and/or 2, and expressions of SSTR generally indicate a good prognosis. However, even those in the unfavorable histology group with NBs expressing SSTR are good candidates for molecular targeting therapy using somatostatin analogues.

Expression of somatostatin receptor subtypes in human thyroid tumors: the immunohistochemical and molecular biology (RT-PCR) investigation
Human endocrine tumors often express the somatostatin receptors SSTR 1-5 with different intensity. It has been widely investigated their distribution in pituitary adenomas, brain tumors, adrenal tumors and neuroendocrine tumors in gastrointestinal tract (NET). Some of studies also concern the expression of SSTRs in thyroid tumors but they are mainly limited to parafollicular C cells - derived m...
متن کاملExpression of somatostatin receptors (SSTR1-SSTR5) in meningiomas and its clinicopathological significance.
Meningiomas are benign brain tumors that are usually to recur. Studies have shown in vitro and in vivo that meningiomas, regardless of histology and classification, express somatostatin receptors (SSTRs). We investigated the immunohistochemical expression of five SSTR subtypes (SSTR1-SSTR5) in tumor tissue sections from 60 patients with diagnosis of meningioma who underwent surgical resection a...

Molecule targeting therapy using somatostatin (SS) analogues has become a widely accepted modality to treat neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), particularly gastrointestinal (GI) and pancreatic endocrine tumors. On the other hand, little is known about the expression of somatostatin receptor (SSTR) subtypes in neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs). We investigated the expression of SSTR subtypes (SSTR-1, ...
متن کاملExpression and localization of somatostatin receptor SSTR1, SSTR2, and SSTR3 messenger RNAs in primary human tumors using in situ hybridization.
Somatostatin receptor gene expression of SSTR1, SSTR2, and SSTR3 subtypes was evaluated by in situ hybridization in 55 human primary tumors shown to contain a high density of somatostatin receptors in binding assays. All 55 tumors expressed at least one SSTR subtype. Of 55 somatostatin receptor-positive tumors, 46 had SSTR2 mRNA; all 46 were characterized as having receptors with a high affinit...
